MEET THE OWNERS OF WOODLANDS COUNTRY HOUSE

John and Philomena O'Sullivan, bought Woodlands Country House Bed And Breakfast in 1965, the year they married. They have lovingly restored it over the years and turned it into one of the most luxurious period house accommodation not just in Gorey or Wexford but in all of Ireland. Philomena has a keen eye for antiques and has quite a collection, and John is an avid gardener in his spare time. They have four children, two boys, two girls, and one grandson so far !!!.

Philomena started in the tourism business in 1969, and has actively participated in the building up of the tourism industry in the Wexford area. She is currently on the board of directors for South East Tourism and Irish Farm Holidays. Philomena has some great stories to tell on the history of the house, which was built in 1836, tales of made matches, curses and lots more....

Philomena loves meeting new people and always welcomes her guests with tea, coffee, hot scones and home preserves, and most importantly, a friendly chat. She will also advise you on where to travel and the best sights to see in the area... she will plan your route with you and also advise you on the best accommodation on route.

John has just recently retired from Glanbia, where he managed the Inch Plant, home of Yoplait products in Ireland. We say retired but you can't keep a good man down.... when he's not helping out with his sons' businesses, he's in the garden growing flowers, shrubs and veggies !! John is a great man about the house, and loves his home and gardens. Take a stroll with him and he will be only delighted to tell you about his home and the wonderful gardens he has brought to maturity over the years.

Woodlands Country House is ideally located in the County of Wexford and in the Sunny South East of Ireland, and on the Wicklow/Wexford border Wicklow is know as the Garden of Ireland, and there is so much to do and see, visiting Glendalough, Sally Gaps, Powerscourt Gardens and Historic Wicklow Gaol. Gorey located a short distance from Woodlands Country House B&B is the chief town of North Wexford. Standing on a gentle slope, with the Wicklow Mountains in the background, it was one of the many forts built by the Normans in a diagonal line from Kilmichael in the north east of the county to the Tower of Hook in the south. The town s Coat of Arms, granted in 1619, exists to this day. An ideal shopping centre and main terminus for Courtown Harbour (3. miles) and some of the most picturesque beaches and coves on the coast. Gorey has much to offer the tourist.
